"In this thought provoking collection, Jim Schenk invites us to step into the flowing river of exploration and experience of Spirit. Tribal people recognize Spirit in everything; it is heartening to read the courageous words of those in the west who know the sacred “in their bones” as well as in their theology” |

An Interview with Brooke Medicine Eagle Why are we here? Medicine Eagle: We are here to continue the loving creation that Creator began. We're an extension of that process into the material world. All of us, every being, everything is. We two-legged beings, we humans, seem to have been given an extra level of possibility in creating things, an absolutely infinite variety of creative possibilities. The human experience is an experiment on freedom; we've been given the freedom to act in any way we choose. I believe we're here to show love really does work and to express that into the world. We are here to remember ourselves as One with creation, to live open-hearted, heart-centered, loving, trusting and cooperating with the world. This will allow an exquisite blossoming of all life on Earth. Dawn Star, the Christ figure in the Americas, taught us what our native people call Flower Song. That Flower Song is about a flowering of the Earth and of each individual. I believe that the blossoming comes when we love and support each other, and help everyone feel secure and free. When they feel this way, humans have an easy time expressing more and more of the beauty they are. We must call forward the finest and best from everyone's heart. Eventually we will all get clear that coming back into the wholeness, the holiness of which White Buffalo Calf Woman speaks, is the goal. Creator guarantees that even as we move back into that wholeness and Oneness, we don't lose our individually creative selves. There is a paradoxical, but incredibly positive blending of the Oneness and individual expression, that we are guaranteed through this covenant. Something far beyond our logical mind, which is eternal life, where we are totally present in the now and yet go on and on and on in a creative manner that is more amazing than we can believe. Although we may be here on this Earth plane, there are universes and possibilities untold and unlimited. We must lift ourselves up and find the joy of acting in love, wholeness and holiness. I tell my students that the Great Spirit is the Great Spirit, not the Great Serious. Life is about joy, and aliveness and richness and play and celebration and spirit; that is the spiritual process.
